DORIS NELLIE HIRZ
1921 – 2023
Doris Nellie (Creamer) Hirz age 102 years and 25 days of
Plattsmouth, NE entered the presence of Jesus on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at The Nebraska Masonic Home in Plattsmouth.
Doris was born on July 18, 1921 to Raymond Cyrus Creamer and Josephine Emma (Freisel) Creamer in Cass County, NE. Her early years were spent in Overton, NE and at the age of eleven Doris moved to a farm in Nehawka, NE. She graduated from Nehawka High School with Class of 1939. Following graduation, Doris worked as a nurse's aide for two years at The Nebraska Masonic Home, where her salary was $30 per month plus room and board. On February 1, 1941 Doris married Robert "Bob" William Hirz. Doris and Bob resided in Omaha for two years before making their home in Plattsmouth, where they raised their two children Jon and Mary Jo. From 1968 to 1978 Doris and Bob lived in Des Moines, IA where Doris was employed by American Republic Insurance Company. Doris enjoyed Bible studies, bridge, crossword puzzles, word searches, walking on the treadmill, watching Lawrence Welk, and a daily glass of red wine at supper. She drove a car until she was 98 years old and she lived independently until she was 98 1/2 years old. She is fondly remembered as a Granny to her family.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Plattsmouth, where she was ordained as a Deacon and an Elder. She was active in Circle and Women's Association. Doris belonged to Order of the Eastern Star Home Chapter #189 in Plattsmouth for 74 years. She and her husband, Bob, served as the 1990 Worthy Matron and Worthy Patron. As well, Doris served as Grand Representative Connecticut in Nebraska 1997 – 1998. Doris was a charter member of the Chapter IN, P.E.O. Sisterhood in Plattsmouth.
Her memory will live on in her children: Jon Hirz and his wife Kathy of Farmington, NM and Mary Jo Osterholm and her husband Richard of Bellevue, NE; her six grandchildren: Jim Hirz and his wife Barb, Heather Svehla and her late husband Dan, Mark Hirz and his wife Cindy, Heidi Keith and her husband Rob, Julie Bobbitt and her husband Jim, and Ryan Osterholm and his wife Courtney; 16 great grandchildren; and 16 great, great grandchildren.
Doris is reunited with those dear ones who have gone before her parents: Raymond and Josephine Creamer, husband: Robert Hirz, and her grandson-in-law: Dan Svehla.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 A.M., on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at First Presbyterian Church in Plattsmouth with Pastor Matthew Coplen officiating.
Her Final Resting Place will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Plattsmouth.
The family suggests Memorials to First Presbyterian Church or The Nebraska Masonic Home.
