Doris went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 28, 2025. She was born to the late Milton and Alma Byers Wenger on August 8, 1938.
She attended Clay Hill School and graduated from Greencastle Antrim High School in 1956. She attended Harrisburg Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1959. She worked as a Registered Nurse in the Waynesboro Hospital operating room and the Washington County Hospital. Doris worked at Avalon Manor for over 25 years where she trained new staff, was Assistant Director of Nursing, and then Director of Nursing.
She was preceded in death by siblings Alfred Wenger, Abbey Oswald, Ralph Wenger, and Sarah Boppe.
Doris is survived by siblings Margaret Lesher, Joel Wenger, Gladys Gorman, and Ray Wenger. Doris is also survived by her husband, Luke Horst, daughters, Tina Horst and Shari Baer, son-in-law Steve Baer, grandson, Matthew Baer and his girlfriend, Sierra Collins, grandson, Adam Baer, and great grandson Caleb. Doris loved and was loved by her family, church family, friends, and neighbors.
Celebration of Life Service will be held at Paramount Brethren in Christ Church on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at 1:30 pm with Pastor Jacob Harrison officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Paramount Brethren in Christ Church or to the charity of your choice.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, MD.
