Doris Hyler was born on February 14, 1938 to the late Selman Lee and Addie (Hogabrooks) Chatman in Leslie, Ga. Doris always attended church from a young age but she formally gave her life to our Savior Jesus Christ as an adult and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church of Brunswick, Georgia. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, daughter and sister. Also to her family and friends, she was a wonderful cook and hairdresser. She would get your hair pressed and ready for your Sunday's best. Collard greens and fried chicken was always a staple in our home and a ready meal for anyone blessed to stop by. She's known affectionately by her nieces and nephews as "Sweet Sixteen" because she always had that youthful energy, contagious smiles and the funniest jokes. And along with two of her sisters, Juanita and Mary, they were called the "Golden Girls". Family gatherings was very important to Mrs. Doris Hyler. She excelled as a homemaker and caregiver while helping to raise her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Doris Hyler was preceded in death by her parents, Selman and Addie Chatman, brothers- Ernest Chatman, Selman Chatman Jr., sisters- Inez Chatman, Carolyn Chatman, Jessie Mae Chatman and Mary Davis. She was also preceded in death by her devoted and loving husband Bennie Lee Hyler.
Doris Hyler leaves to Cherish her memories, one daughter Shirley Ann Hill, three grandchildren Sholonda Mctier-Blount (Alphonso), Roshawn Mctier-Wright (Thomas) and Averill Hill (Kizzy); three sisters Juanita Burse, Sally Scriven and Linda Holden, four brothers, Eddie Chatman (Sarah), Freddie Lee Chatman (Sharon), Robert Chatman and Jackie Chatman, eleven great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
