Doris Marie Edwards was born on July 14, 1952, at Baylor Hospital in
Dallas, Texas, to the late Claude Walter Edwards and Minnie Webster Edwards. She was the youngest of four siblings and gave her life to Jesus Christ at an early age, committing herself to ministry throughout her life.
Doris graduated from North Dallas High School and later attended Allstate Business College. In 1972, she began her career at Allstate, where she served in various roles for 48 years before retiring in 2020.
On March 10, 1972, Doris married the late Larry Gene Johnson. Their union lasted over 40 years and was blessed with two sons and a host of grandchildren.
Doris became a member of Bethany Missionary Baptist Church in 1972, where she began her service for the Kingdom of God. She served on the Usher Board and held leadership roles as Vice President and President of the Greater Rising Star Junior Mission.
In 2009, Doris joined Westmoreland Baptist Church when her husband was installed as interim pastor and continued her service after he became Senior Pastor in 2011. During this time, she served as First Lady and President of the Women's Ministry until his passing in 2018.
In 2021, Doris became a member of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship, where she served in the Comfort and Care Ministry, attended Life on Life Women's Fellowship, and volunteered in various ministries. Doris was passionate about living for Christ and often said she was like "Anna," the widow in the Bible who served God faithfully throughout her life. She loved God, ministry, and leading others to Christ. Known for her giving heart, Doris often said she "made a point to look for opportunities to give."
Doris also attended Faith Outreach Ministries, where she faithfully taught Sunday School and shared her love for God's Word with others. Her commitment extended beyond teaching; she actively assisted in the Women's Ministry.
Doris was known as a loyal and dependable friend to the church community, always ready to lend a helping hand and uplift those in need. Her presence brought warmth and strength, and her dedication reflected her deep passion for serving Christ through every opportunity.
Doris was preceded in death by her Husband: Larry Gene Johnson; Brother: Jerry Edwards; Nephew: Leonard Bange; Cousins: Betty Winfrey, Bill Webster, William Webster, Ronnie Webster, Delores Webster.
Doris leaves behind a legacy of God's faithfulness, love of family, and cherished memories of all that she encountered in her life; Sister: Dorothy Bange; Brother: Robert Edwards; Children: Jason Johnson (Latoya) and Christopher Johnson, Sr. (Valarie) all of
Dallas, Tx; Nieces: Sharon Bange and
Vivian Crayton (Derrick); Nephews: Jerry Edwards, Jr. (Jennifer) and Jerrick Edwards (Pamela); Grandchildren: Bruce Coleman (Ariel), Jason Johnson, Jr., Jastonee Johnson, Braylon Johnson, Kendall Johnson , Cahmari Anderson, Aylaysia Jones, Jaxon Johnson, Eriayna Murphy, Joshua Johnson, Alandria Johnson, Christopher Johnson, Jr.; Great-Grandchildren: Axios Coleman and Jabari Coleman; and a host of relatives and friends.
