Funeral services for Doris Ann Shields Nelson, 71, of Wills Point, is scheduled for 200 p.m. Wednesday, August 19, 2009, at Allan Fuller Funeral Home Chapel in Wills Point with Rev. Ken Cooper officiating. Interment will follow at Union Grove Cemetery north of Wills Point. She went to meet her Lord early Saturday morning, August 15, 2009, at her daughter's home in Point. Doris was born June 6, 1938, in San Antonio, Texas, the daughter of Marion Franklin Shields and Gussie Belle Long Shields. She was raised in San Antonio where she attended public school. On February 5, 1955, she married Eddie James Nelson in Seguin, Texas. Doris had been employed by Terrell State Hospital, retiring in 1998. She later was a houseparent at Lakes Regional Health Services in Terrell. She had lived in Farmers Branch prior to moving to the Wills Point area thirty-five years ago. Doris enjoyed gardening and fishing. She was of the Baptist faith. Preceded in death by her parents, Marion & Gussie Shields; husband of forty seven years, Eddie James Nelson, Sr. on March 13, 2002; four brothers, Edward Shields, Luther Ray Shields, Clarence Shields and Robert Shields and a niece, Laurie Shields. Doris is survived by a son, Eddie James Nelson, Jr., of Wills Point; three daughters, Debby McClure & husband, Harold, of Quinlan, Donna Kimbro & husband, Jerry, of Point and Karen Wills & husband, Mike, of Wills Point; brother, Melvin Shields & wife, Betty, of San Antonio; sister-in-law, Darlene Shields, of Three Rivers; four grandchildren; Jason McClure, Lisa Clever & husband, Aaron, Crissy Dumire & husband, Chris and Jessie Wills; six great-grandchildren, Randi Wells, Jason McClure, Jr., Austin Fields, Taylor Fields, Cobe Dumire and Alex Dumire and special cousin, Bea Alexander, of San Antonio. Pallbearers, Harold McClure, Aaron Clever, Mike Wills, Jerry kimbro and Chris Dumire.
