Doris Penn Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home - Farmington on Jan. 7, 2025.
Doris Evelyn Raffety Penn, 89, of Hanna City, passed away at 6:21 AM on Monday, January 6, 2025 at Apostolic Christian Restmor in Morton. She was born on October 9, 1935 in East St. Louis, Illinois, a daughter of Glenn and Juanita (Kimbro) Raffety. She married Raymond Marvin Penn on May 23, 1952 in Peoria. He preceded her in death.
Also, preceding Doris in death were her parents, brothers, Robert Raffety, Delbert Raffety; and sister Mary Heflin.
Surviving are three daughters, Linda (Late Steve) Bohde, Cindy (Gary) Holmes, Cheryl (Tim) Botkin, all of Hanna City; three granddaughters, Jennifer Penn, Rachel Negley, Cara McKim; seven great-grandchildren, and one sister, Irene Lounsberry; also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Doris worked at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria from 1983, retiring in 1998. She was an active member of Hanna City Presbyterian Church, and the women's bible study for several years. She sewed for a number of years and later learned to quilt, making many beautiful quilts. Her door was always open to friends & family, and she loved spending time with her grandchildren, and great grandchildren, as the great grandchildren called her "grandma grape", and the rest of the family often called her "Wonder Woman" because if she set her mind to something, she would accomplish it. Her friend from high school, Bonnie Pahl came back from Florida to spend time with Doris as much as she could, and the family is grateful for that.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at the Hanna City Presbyterian Church, where visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of services. Pastor David Keithley will officiate. Burial will follow the services in Smithville Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Hanna City Presbyterian Church or to the Hanna City Volunteer Fire Department. To leave online condolences please visit www.sedgwickfuneralhomes.com
