Doris Peters Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Samuel L Vance & Sons Funeral Directors on Jan. 28, 2026.
Mother Doris Jean Peters was born on October 5, 1941, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to the late Odessa Dixon. At an early age, Mother Peters confessed Christ and united with Bethel AME Church in Little Rock, Arkansas. She was united in holy matrimony to Ryal Peters on September 5, 1957. From this union were born three daughters-Vickie, Linda, and Carol-and one son, Darren.

Doris later moved her church membership to Second Baptist Church, where she remained a faithful and devoted member, serving diligently as a Mother of the Mother's Board until her passing. Mother Peters retired from Arkansas Children's Hospital in 2004. After retirement, she found great joy in cooking meals for her family, hosting family gatherings, and attending weekend retreats to Branson, Missouri, and Hot Springs, Arkansas. Her life was a shining testimony of grace, strength, and perseverance.

Doris carried herself with dignity, spoke with intention, and lived a life rooted in integrity. Though her words were few, they were rich with wisdom and faith, leaving a lasting impact on all whose lives she touched. She peacefully transitioned into the arms of the Lord on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ryal Peters; her daughter, Carol Wilson; her stepdaughter, Lucinda Clark; her stepson, Larry Gatewood; granddaughter, Shanitha Oliver; and brothers, Albert Dixon and Thomas Woods

Doris leaves to cherish her precious memories three daughters, Vickie Peters, Linda Fossette (Reggie), and Marvena Allen; one son, Darren Peters; sister-in-law, Novella Peters; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and her beloved Second Baptist Church family.

John 14:27

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
