Doris Nadine Gravitt Powell, 94, of West Columbia, South Carolina, departed this earthly life to be with her heavenly Father, on November 8, 2025. She was born November 10, 1930, in Gainesville, Georgia, to the late Fletcher Bell Gravitt and the late Mary Myrtlene McIntyre Gravitt.
Doris was a homemaker for many years and always opened her home to friends and family who needed it. She never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand.
She is a member of Life Springs Church in Lexington, South Carolina. She was also a formermember of City of Hope Worship Center. For many years she served as a greeter for Life Springs Church and was always willing to help serve food to anyone in need. Doris loved serving God, reading her bible, followed by a discussion of the scriptures. It was very important to her to have family devotions and prayer every night before going to bed. If you stayed in her home overnight, you were invited to join the family devotion time. She enjoyed spending time with all her family and performing skits and playing fun games just to make them laugh and enjoy life. She was affectionately known by her children as mom, and by everyone else as Meema. Doris enjoyed traveling to different countries such as the entire United Kingdom and Canada, working in her yard, sewing, cooking and baking, and sharing her plethora of knowledge to all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren was her greatest pleasure.
At a very young age, God gave Doris a very special ministry. She loved bringing joy to people by sending handwritten cards or notes to let you know that you are special and not only loved by God but loved by her. In the past couple of years, she sent out over 200 cards to the members of Life Springs Oasis 55+ Senior Ministry.
She is survived by her son, Michael (Tonya) Powell, West Columbia, SC; daughter, Amaryllis “Amy” Powell, West Columbia, SC; sister, Janice (Wayne) Osborne, Easley, SC; granddaughters; Leanne (Jeff) Hammond, St. Matthews, SC; Stacey (Walker) Clifford, Lexington, SC; grandson; Andrew (Marie) Brigman, West Columbia, SC; great-granddaughter; Lindsey Smith, Myrtle Beach, SC; great-grandsons; Brightman (Hannah) Bruorton, Swansea, SC; Scottie Smith, Wilmington, NC; Nathaniel Brigman, West Columbia, SC; great-great-grandson; Wilson Bruorton, Swansea, SC, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
