Doris M. Powers

1928 - 2025

Doris M. Powers, 97, of Fort Madison, passed away at 7:46 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 22, 2025 at River Valley Place in Fort Madison.

She was born on May 18, 1928 in Winamac, Ind. to Albert and Arena Malchow Westphal. She married Richard E. Powers on Dec. 1, 1946 in Medaryville, Ind. He preceded her in death on Dec. 4, 2020. She moved to Fort Madison in 1959 and worked at Greenwald's Supermarket in the meat department for 10 years, but most of her life was a homemaker. She was a member of Holy Family Parish and enjoyed bowling, golf, puzzles, painting rocks, sewing and volunteered at the Lulac Club for Bingo night. She loved helping people, especially her neighbors.

Doris is survived by a daughter, Jean Ann (Dennis) Kelly of Lewisville, Texas; a son, John (Nancy) Powers of Burlington; 6 grandchildren: Dennis Jr, Erin and Brett Kelly and Chad, Brent and Chris Powers and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a daughter, Marilyn Powers.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory. A visitation will be held for both Doris and Dick Powers from 2-3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2025 at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 3 p.m. Burial will be held at a later date at St. Peter's Cemetery in Winamac, Ind.
