Doris Thomas Shimpock, 95, passed from this life to her eternal home on January 3, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was a resident of Spring Arbor Assisted Living, but longtime resident of Albemarle, NC. She was born on October 9, 1927, in Union County to the late Julian Lee and Eula Baucom Thomas. Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Rev. Farrell Shimpock.
Dot, as she was affectionately known, graduated from Hartsell High School in Concord, NC. She married her sweetheart on January 27, 1946 after his return from WWII. She was the epitome of a pastor’s wife, following her husband faithfully in all of his 62 years of ministries as a Baptist pastor.
The family will receive friends Sunday, January 8, 2023 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle. Her Funeral service will take place on Monday, January 9, 2023 at 11:00 am at Hartsell Funeral Home’s Lefler Memorial Chapel of Albemarle. Burial will be at Canton Baptist Church Cemetery, 24615 Endy Road, Albemarle, North Carolina.
Her first loves were being a faithful follower of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a confidant to those who entrusted her. She loved to sew for her children and bake for the family.
Dot is survived by three children, Eddie Shimpock (Lynn) of Oakboro, Karen S. Lowder (Steve) of Badin, and Angela S. Barbee (Jeff) of Oakboro. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Lainie Lane (Thomas), Lea Winter, Ashley Barbee (Kevin), Judson Barbee (Jennifer), Erin Gardiner (Jeff), Charlie Lowder (Krista), Caleb Lowder, Heather Campbell (Jim), and Hannah Leonard. She was blessed with 13 great-grandchildren Abigail Isenhour, A.J. Manshack, Jodi Manshack, Jordan Manshack, Addie Barbee, Bryn Cribb, J.T. Barbee, Kate Cribb, Jeffery Gardiner, Peyton Lowder, Rayne Gardiner, Jackson Lowder and great-granddaughter to be born in March. She is survived by one sister, Peggy Austin of Charlotte, NC and a wonderful roommate at Spring Arbor, Patsy Helms.
Dot was predeceased in death by sisters Myrtle Gordon, Christine Barnhardt, and brother Vance Thomas.
The family would like to thank the staff of Spring Arbor Assisted Living for their compassion and care during her time there. We also want to thank Community Home Care and Hospice of Troy, NC.
