Doris R. "Dori" Smith

Doris R. 'Dori' Smith, 83, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 24, 2023, while under the care of St. Croix Hospice at Bell Tower, in Merrill WI.
She was born April 22, 1940, in Merrill, daughter of the late Edward and Marion (Braun) Rostal. On February 27, 1960, she married Stanley Smith. He preceded her in death in 2013.
Dori was a proud homemaker and mother. She enjoyed cooking and baking and hosted many family holidays.
In the summer, you could find her driving the boat on Mayflower Lake while her kids water skied. Early on, she worked as a lifeguard and instilled a love of swimming in her children. When the snow flew, Dori and her daughters could be found on the slopes. Downhill skiing was another passion.
Dori was an excellent seamstress. She challenged herself by learning to hand quilt, do counted cross stitch and hardanger. She was a regular at her stitching group. Everyone admired her work.
Travel was something Dori and her husband Stan enjoyed together. France, Spain, Germany and Alaska were some of their bigger adventures. Later in life, they regularly wintered in Florida. Dori enjoyed combing the beaches for shells. She found a rare one and won a blue ribbon at a shell show.
Doris Smith is survived by daughters Kaye Smith and Sandra (Ricardo) Giorgis, both of MN and Anne (Mark) Simon, MI. Surviving grandchildren include Avery, Jonathan, Mackenzie, Camryn and Shailee.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Smith, in 2014.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, January 14, 2024, at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill. The Rev. Scott Gustafson will officiate. Visitation will begin at 12:00 P.M., Noon, on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at the funeral home.
