Penwell-Gabel Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - TopekaDoris L. Vaughn, age 87, of Topeka, KS passed away peacefully Friday, July 18th 2025. She was born Sept.8, 1937 in Halls Summit, Kansas the daughter of Fred F. & Thelma M. (Shaffer) Ireland.
Doris graduated from Lebo High School in 1955 and moved to Topeka, Kansas. She attended Clarks Business College and worked at First National Bank of Topeka.
She married James (Jim) L. Vaughn, October 12, 1958. They had three sons: Kevin L., David L. and Scott L. Vaughn.
Doris was active with school functions and scouts for the boys. She worked for Performance Tire and Wheel for 20 years and retired in 1994. Jim retired in 1999 and they started wintering in La Feria, Texas and then decided to become full time residents. Doris then returned to Topeka in 2010 after Jim’s death.
Doris was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jim Vaughn and her parents, Fred & Thelma Ireland.
She is survived by three sons, Kevin and April, Ft. Myers FL, David and Sally, Wichita, KS, and Scott and Taria, San Antonio, TX. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Ryan Vaughn, Trent Brown, Collin Vaughn, Tyler Vaughn, Jaimie Greenwood, Travis Vaughn, and Nicole Boston, as well as 12 great-grandchildren.
A visitation will take place on Tuesday, July 29th 2025 at Penwell Gabel Funeral Home Midtown Chapel from 10:00-11:00AM with memorial services beginning at 11:00AM with pastor Brad Wheeler officiating. The family would like to thank Brookside Care Community and Phoenix Hospice for the special care they provided Doris.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Meals on Wheels of Topeka or First United Methodist Church of Topeka.
