Dorothy Albright Obituary

Dorothy Lee Albright, 87, of Kaneville passed away on September 22, 2022. Always a fighter until the end she will be missed by all her family and friends.

She was born on July 3, 1935, in Aurora, IL. Dorothy had a childhood filled with illness, as she contracted rheumatic fever at a young age. She spent many of her early years in hospitals and was especially grateful to the doctors and nurses at La Rabida Children's Hospital in Chicago. She found her love of writing while spending her days in a hospital bed. She produced many poems and short stories, some humorous and some sad.

She got stronger and achieved more than her doctors thought possible. She married Clifford Albright in 1956 and lived the life of a city girl gone to the country. They had three daughters, which she never thought possible with her health condition. Even though her marriage did not last, she moved on and worked hard, sometimes with two jobs to support her three girls. She found her love of bookkeeping, but also her love of people, working many nights as a waitress then hostess at the Blue Lantern Restaurant in Aurora. She would work many years at the Kaneville Grain & Supply, Acton Mobile and later Nagel/Siebert Trucking "keeping their books". Always writing poems for her co-workers, especially for special occasions.

Many people in Kaneville will have fond memories of her always out on her front porch across from the "purple store" ready to give a wave or call out a greeting.

Her family was everything and all she ever cared for. No trips or traveling around the world, just stay at home and be with them. She loved her great-grandchildren so much and shared with them her special songs, especially "Bushel and a Peck". Her writings will be printed in a book for her family called "Marmee's Dream" to pass down to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and generations to come.

She was preceded in death by her brother Richard (Sarah) Barilla, husband Clifford Albright, her parents John and Viola (Kimpon) Barilla, and little brother Johnny who died in infancy.

She leaves behind her loving family, sisters: Carolyn (Ronald) Moos, Yorkville; Julia Barilla, Hinckley; her brother Joseph Barilla, Batavia; her three daughters: Catherine (Brian) Temple, Clarkston, WA; Cynthia Gehringer, Somonauk; Karen (Poul) Flamand II, Kaneville; four grandchildren: Manda (Zachary) Fouts, Somonauk; Christopher (Aubrey) Flamand, Dekalb; Kalina (Levi Brundige) Flamand, Elburn; Sean Flamand, Chicago; three great-granddaughters: Gianna Flamand, Dekalb; Charlotte Flamand, Dekalb; Sophia Brundige, Elburn.

A private family gathering will be held at a later date. Cards may be mailed to: PO Box 118, Kaneville, IL 60144.

Dorothy and her daughters were a great delight. She had a wonderful sense of humor, and her laugh brightened up everyone wherever she was. RIP, Dort.
