A Memorial Service for Dorothy L. Deguise, age 94, of Fairmont, MN, will be 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 15, 2025, at Fairmont Evangelical Covenant Church with inurnment in Lakeside Cemetery in Fairmont. Visitation will be 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. on Monday at the church. Dorothy passed away on Sunday afternoon, November 30, 2025, at Goldfinch Estates in Fairmont. The Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Dorothy Louise (Van Langen) Deguise was born on January 13, 1931, in Bigelow, MN. She was the daughter of Abe and Gertrude (Rutgers) Van Langen. Dorothy attended grade school in Bigelow before later attending and graduating from Worthington High School. She furthered her education by taking summer courses at Hamline University.
On May 23, 1950, Dorothy was united in marriage to Leon "Leo" Deguise in Bigelow, MN. This union was blessed with four children, Vonna, Gary, Valerie, and Janet. The family resided in St. Paul, Luverne, and Worthington before moving to Fairmont in 1955. Dorothy and Leo shared over sixty-six years together before Leo passed away on August 26, 2016.
When she wasn't busy caring for their home and working as a store clerk, Dorothy stayed busy as a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Fairmont Hospital Auxiliary, and the Evergreens Senior Group as well as being a member of the Fairmont Evangelical Covenant Church where she led numerous Bible study groups. Dorothy was known to be a voracious leader.
During her free time, Dorothy enjoyed crafts such as needlepoint, embroidery, and sewing. Dorothy loved to cook, play Scrabble, and do crossword and picture puzzles. More recently she took up painting after moving to Goldfinch.
Left to cherish her memory include her children, Vonna (Richard) Henry, Gary (Janet) Deguise, and Valerie (Ned) Hance; grandchildren, Matthew (Darcy) Deguise, Ryan Deguise, Alison (Jeff) Mans, Jennifer (Justin) Krieger, Lindsay (John) Kenyon, Ned (Sonja) Hance, Sarah (Rolland) Gerard, and Joshua (Melissa) Wiederhoft; great grandchildren, Isaac, Preston, Brayden, and Cayden Wiederhoft, Ava Rose and Kiera Kenyon, Lyla and Beck Hance, Alexandra and David Krieger, and Kennedy and Milo Mans; sisters, Mary (Arthur) Robyn, and Mina (Vern) VanderPol; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Along with her parents, Abe and Gertrude Van Langen, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Deguise; daughter, Janet Wiederhoft; granddaughter, Erin Deguise; sister, Helen Febus and her husband, Francis; brother, Richard Van Langen and his wife, Eileen.
