Dorothy "Bean" (Meeks) Edwards
God called Dorothy Jean (Meeks) Edward's home June 22, 2023.
Dorothy Jean (Meeks) Edwards was born the fourth of twelve children February 24, 1947. She was affectionately known as "Bean;" a name given to her by her sister Ruthie because she'd eat butterbeans out of their garden.
Dorothy was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. Dorothy was always full of life. She had dreams to give her kids a better life than she had growing up in Canton, MS. So as soon as she could, she left Mississippi with her three children and joined her siblings in Decatur Illinois.
In Decatur she discovered her passions. She enjoyed cooking, walking, shopping, and traveling; her favorite spot was Paradise Island, Bahamas. She was affectionately known for her famous peach cobbler. She was an expert at making any salad but was known for her potato and chicken salad. Her kids share in her passion for cooking.
Anyone who knew Dorothy, knew that she loved the Blues, and a good party. She worked and retired from Wallace Laboratories after 27 years. She enjoyed her coworkers; her friends and she enjoyed her family.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband Isaac Edwards, her parents Percy and Mattiel Meeks, her brothers Sammy Meeks and Percy Meeks Jr, and sister Delores Meeks (Small), her nephews Mark Meeks and Jerome Ford.
She leaves to cherish her memories with her children, Sherell (Frederick) Jefferson (Canton, MS), Darnell (Earline) Wilson (

Indianapolis, Indiana) Her grandchildren Steven (Ozie) Smith, Alexia Ware, Tyler Wilson, Chrisjaan Smith, Sylvia Wilson, Donovan Harden, Sydney Wilson, Carson Harden.
