In loving memory of Dorothy (Dot) June Fitzgerald, 87, of Fayetteville, NC, who passed away on January 4, 2024.
Dorothy was born on March 3, 1936, in Coley, PA, to Charles Wesley Bullock and Edna Mae Adams. She was one of six children, survived by her brother Richard (Eileen) Bullock of Wellsville, PA, and sister Judy (Bill) Dolde of Naples, FL.
A graduate of Wyalusing High School, Dorothy married the love of her life, William (Bill) Peter Fitzgerald, at St. Basil’s Church in Dushore, PA. She dedicated herself to supporting Bill throughout his military career, raising their six children and even traveling alone with them for overseas assignments.
Later in life, Dorothy graduated from Fayetteville Technical Community College and worked as a bookkeeper for approximately 30 years. Her retirement years were filled with travel alongside her husband and active community volunteering. She served as the treasurer of the Rayconda Neighborhood Homeowners Association and found fulfillment at St. Patrick Catholic Church, contributing to the Finance Council and Funeral Ministry. Additionally, she dedicated her time to The Care Clinic where she selflessly performed various duties.
Dorothy will be remembered as a cherished wife, mother, and friend, admired for her impeccable organization. Despite having six children, her home was always impeccably clean. Her sons fondly recall a mischievous tradition of purposefully messing up a throw rug as they heard the garage door open, just so she could take a moment to straighten it upon returning home from work.
She is survived by her six children: Theresa (Ron) Southers of Fayetteville, William (Mary) Fitzgerald, Jr. of Cary, Charles Fitzgerald of Fayetteville, Debra Musselwhite of Fayetteville, Joan Fitzgerald of Tulsa, OK, and Brenda Fitzgerald of Fayetteville. Dorothy also leaves behind 14 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was predeceased by her beloved husband, her parents, her brother Ronnie Bullock of Sugar Run, PA, and two sisters, Virginia Gainer of Dushore, PA, and Joan Sanderson of Bloomsburg, PA.
Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. May she rest in peace.
The funeral services to celebrate the life of Dorothy (Dot) June Fitzgerald will be held at 11 am, on January 11, 2024, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with Father Gregory Lowchy presiding. Visitation hours will take place prior to the service, from 10 to 10:45 am. The interment will follow at Lafayette Memorial Park West.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be sent to Saint Patrick Catholic Church at 2844 Village Drive, Fayetteville, NC 28304, or The Care Clinic at PO Box 53438, Fayetteville, NC 28305. Your generosity in supporting these causes is deeply appreciated.
