Dorothy Gilbert Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Madison Funeral Home on Feb. 17, 2026.
With loving hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Grandmama, Dorothy Ann "Dot" Gilbert, who was born on August 11, 1937, and passed away peacefully at her home on February 17, 2026.

Dot was born to George Thelman Roberts and Edith Dawes in Columbia, TN. She was raised alongside her brothers, Thelman and Gene Roberts, and grew up with the strong sense of family and resilience that shaped her life.

On May 25, 1956, she married James Alfred "Jimmy" Gilbert, Sr., the love of her life. Together they built a home centered on family, hard work, and caring for one another. Dot was the quiet strength that held generations together and the steady presence for her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Alfred "Jimmy" Gilbert, Sr., and her daughter, Anita Moñino.

She is survived by her sons, James (Al) Gilbert, Jr. and George (Joe) Gilbert; her daughter, Linda Morris and her husband, Bobby; and Fabian Moñino, who remained a dear member of the family. She leaves behind her grandchildren: Carlos Moñino; Edith Torr and her husband, Bill; James Gilbert III and his wife, Sarah; Leslie Hertzog and her husband, Werner; Robert (Bobby) Morris Jr. and his wife, Jamie; Brandon Morris; Tabatha Morris; and Amanda Preston. Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren: Natalie, Nathan, and Noah Hertzog, and Leopold and Oliver Torr.

Dot loved children and felt most at home with family gathered around her. She enjoyed tending her garden, especially her flowers, cooking meals that brought everyone together, and spending time with her dogs. Her home was a place of warmth, comfort, and welcome.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
