Dorothy E. Goodenough

Dorothy E. Goodenough, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully into the loving hands of her Lord and Savior on December 5, 2025, in Marcellus, Michigan, surrounded by her loving family. Born on August 17, 1944, in Searcy, Arkansas, Dorothy was the embodiment of humility and grace, carrying a spirit of warmth that touched everyone she encountered.

Dorothy's journey began when she married her devoted husband, Russell "Riley" Goodenough, on June 23, 1962, in Marcellus. Together, they shared 63 years of marriage and built a life filled with love and laughter, raising three children—Jane (Bruce) Butchbaker, David (Cathy) Goodenough, and Becky (Randy, Sr.) Blair—who were blessed to have such an extraordinary mother. Dorothy's influence extended wonderfully into the lives of her eight grandchildren: Amanda (Kyle) Conley, Brian Butchbaker, Allen (Lydia) Butchbaker, Cheyenne Goodenough, Melissa (Andy) Grau, David Blair, Leah (Mike) Ureche, and Randy (Jan) Blair, Jr. Alongside them, she rejoiced in the delight of her great-grandchildren: Callie and William Conley, Oliver and Olivia Butchbaker, Maizlee Goodenough, Della, Juni and Revi Ureche, Shelby (Sean) Wolf and Drew Grau as well as extended family that lovingly called her “GiGi”. She leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family who cherished her presence in their lives.

A woman of strong faith, Dorothy was known for her unwavering belief in the power of family and community. She had a special heart for children, which radiated through her thoughtful gestures and loving actions—whether it was through a kind word or her delicious glazed donuts that became a cherished staple among friends and family. Dorothy's talents were many; she found joy in crocheting, and she delighted everyone with her wonderful cooking. As a talented seamstress and tailor, she crafted beautiful wedding and bridesmaid dresses that added a loving touch to many memorable occasions for her family. Above all, her proudest accomplishment was being a devoted homemaker, creating a loving and welcoming home for her family.

Throughout her life, Dorothy was not only a dear member of her family but also a loyal friend. Her warmth and kindness were infectious, and she was always present for those who needed support—a true testament to her nurturing spirit. Dorothy will be deeply missed by her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of whom were fortunate to learn from her example of compassion and love. She is lovingly remembered by her surviving family, as well as her cherished memories of her parents, Homer and Alma (Cook) Long, her six siblings—Emmett, Otis, Maelene, John, Bob, and Stella—and her grandson, Christian Goodenough, who have all welcomed her into their eternal embrace.

Dorothy E. Goodenough leaves behind a legacy filled with grace, love, and a profound commitment to family that will continue to resonate through her loved ones for generations to come.
