Dorothy "Bonnie" Hall, 96, of Elkhart passed away Sunday, Dec. 17, 2023, at her residence in Elkhart with her family by her side. She was born Oct. 1, 1927, in DeKalb County, Indiana, to Harry D. and Mary E. (Ober) Brumbaugh.
On Aug. 10, 1947, in DeKalb County, Indiana, she married Arthur E. Hall. He preceded her in death on Dec. 24, 2014, in Elkhart, Indiana. Dorothy is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Beth Hall and Samuel Sommers of Elkhart, Indiana. Also surviving are three nephews and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter, the Rev. Deborah Hall, and her brother, Gene Brumbaugh.
Dorothy graduated from Garret High School, received her bachelor's degree from Indiana University and her master's degree from St. Francis College. She taught Home Economics in Allen County and later Freshman English at Garrett High School in the 1960s. She was a life member of the Indiana Veterinary Medical Auxiliary and the American Veterinary Medical Auxiliary. Dorothy was also a member of the National Education Association as well as a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Elkhart.
Cremation will take place and a celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday Dec. 23, at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home. Friends may visit with the family for one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Terri Peterson from St. John's Episcopal Church and Chris Ulery from St. Paul's UMC will render the services.
Burial will be private at a later date, in Cedar Creek Cemetery in DeKalb, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be given to Saving Grace Ministries at St. Paul's UMC or the Elkhart County Humane Society.
