Dorothy Muriel (Stuckey) Haywood, 89, of Cabot passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2024. She was born at home on Sumner Cemetery Road in Cabot on March 16, 1935, daughter of the late Carl Stuckey and Gladys (Boyd) Stuckey. She was a faithful member of Zion Hill Baptist Church for most of her life.
Dorothy graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1953. She worked for Ottenheimer Brothers Manufacturing Company in Little Rock, Carrigan Chevrolet in Cabot, and Zion Hill Baptist Church, where she served as Secretary from 1968 – 1995 and Custodian from 1976 – 1995. She married Bob Haywood in 1959 and they were married until his death in 1990. She was a devoted wife, mother, and daughter and a truly special friend to many during her lifetime. She was focused on the things that really matter – her family, home, church, friends – doing for others, helping people.
She was a whiz with a needle, thread and sewing machine. She sewed beautiful clothes for her family for many years and crocheted countless baby blankets and other items for gifts and donations. She was known in the community as a wonderful cook and dessert maker and spent a number of years decorating cakes for special occasions. She loved tending her flowers and doting on her cats. In her later years, she enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball and Razorback basketball games and spending time on her GrandPad tablet.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter Sheila Catlin and husband Joe of O’Fallon, Illinois; grandson Phillip Foster and wife Tiffany of Cabot, granddaughter Brittany Haywood of Beebe, and grandson Cody Haywood of Beebe; great-granddaughters Hadley Foster and Hartlin Foster, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Phillip Haywood; her brother, Donald Stuckey; and special niece, Susan Haywood Lunday.
The family would like to thank the medical staff at NLR Baptist Hospital for their excellent care, and the staff at StoneBridge Assisted Living in Cabot. A special thank you to Linda Todd at StoneBridge, whom Mom thought of as a bonus daughter, for caring so much, for bringing joy, humor and dedication every day, and for the great cooking.
Dorothy's funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Zion Hill Baptist Church located at 11923 Zion Hill Road, Cabot. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Sumner Cemetery.
