Dorothy L. Helmig, 93, of Havana, passed away at 12:50 p.m. on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at Em's Haven of Rest in Havana. She was born on September 2, 1931 in Oakford, Illinois to Oren G. and Eliza A. (Gratton) Boehm. She married Bernard Helmig on January 10, 1972 in Havana and he preceded her in death on August 2, 2000.
Dorothy is survived by her niece, Emma Smith of Havana; special caregivers, Marilyn Skiles and Brenda Craig; and several other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and siblings, Glenn Boehm, Carl Boehm, Clarence Boehm, Eileen Keith, Alice Witherall, infant brother Gerald Boehm and Geraldine Gedman.
Dorothy was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church. She worked in the kitchen at Mason District Hospital as a cook for 20 years, where she met her husband. She enjoyed embroidery, taking care of flowers, and yardwork. She also enjoyed wallpapering and painting for people around town.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, January 13, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Laurel Hill in Havana, with Rev. Mike Hopps officiating. A visitation will he held one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana.
Memorial contributions may be made in Dorothy's name to Hopewell Baptist Church. Online condolences can be left for her family at www.hurleyfh.com.
