YADKINVILLE- Ms Dorothy Ruth Sheek Hutchens, 91, of Old Stage Road passed away peacefully Saturday, November 8, 2025 at Yadkin Nursing Center. She was born November 5, 1934 in Yadkin County to the late Joseph Howard and Esther Priscilla Owens Sheek. Ms Hutchens worked several years as a custodian with Courtney Elementary School before owning her own house cleaning service. She found great joy in helping others-whether through her devoted service to the Salvation Army, where she was honored as Volunteer of the Month, or through the handmade doilies, dishcloths, and pillows she lovingly crocheted for family and friends. Ms Hutchens always carried a servant's heart. She was a devoted and faithful member of Turners Creek Baptist Church and even when she became physically unable to attend inside the sanctuary, she found comfort in her faith to drive and listen to the service in the parking lot. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Jack T. Hutchens; her son, Thomas Dale Hutchens; daughters, Deborah Diane Hutchens and Teresa Dawn Hutchens Flores Gorman; son, Derek Lane Hutchens; son-in-law, Cecil Adams; her brother, Joe Sheek; and special friend, Johnson Ledbetter. Surviving are her daughters, Donna Adams; Denna (Harold) Brown; Grandchildren, Lisa (Tim) Mitchell, LeAnn (Shannon) Hinshaw, Lori (Landon) Linville, Tonya (Rodney) Harpe, Jeana Flores, Harold Gray Brown, Jr., Tabitha (Jerry) Snider, Bradley L. Brown, Michael Shawn Brown, Matthew Brown; 21 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Geraldine Sheek; and several nieces and nephews. The family received friends from 1-2 PM Saturday, November 15, at Turners Creek Baptist Church. Her funeral service followed the visitation at 2 PM Saturday in Turners Creek Baptist Church by Rev. Scott Welch. Interment followed in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Turners Creek Baptist Church Mission Fund, 3216 Courtney/Huntsville Road, Yadkinville, NC 27055.
