Dorothy Jones Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Anderson-Ragsdale Mortuary - San Diego on Feb. 15, 2025.
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dorothy Jean Jones, age 89, on February 10, 2025.
Dorothy was born on November 5, 1935, in Driver, Arkansas. She was the eldest daughter of 13 children,
growing up in Blytheville, Arkansas.
Dorothy was the beloved wife of Granville Jones, USN Chief retired, who preceded her in death. Together,
they were married for 50 years, building a life filled with love, joy, and cherished memories. Their bond was
unwavering and remains an enduring testament to their love. Dorothy was also a loving mother, sister, and
cherished grandmother and great-grandmother, dedicated to her family and community.
Dorothy and Granville spent most of their life raising their family in San Diego, California, where Dorothy
found deep connections, served her community, and enjoyed many years with her family. The last 8 years of her
life Dorothy lived with her daughter Angela Lewis in Bartlett, Tennessee, where she received an abundance of
love and care from her caregivers Brenda Houston and Linda Malone.
Dorothy was known for her warm spirit and kind heart. She was an active member of Bayview Baptist
Church in San Diego, California, where she was a dedicated Sunday School teacher and a loving member of the
Deacon Wives. Dorothy's faith was central to her life, and she enjoyed sharing her knowledge and love of
Christ with others. Her unwavering faith and generosity touched the lives of everyone she met, and her legacy
will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
Dorothy earned an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education at San Diego City Community College,
and she had a deep passion for teaching. She enjoyed working with children and had a lasting impact on her
students, nurturing their growth and fostering a love for learning. Dorothy found great joy in seeing her
students succeed and thrive, and she remained a dedicated educator throughout her life.
One of Dorothy's greatest joys in life was fishing. Her love for being on a lake always brought a huge smile to
her face. Whether casting a line or simply enjoying the peaceful surroundings, Dorothy treasured the moments
of comfort and happiness by the water.
Dorothy was the proud mother of six children. She was preceded in death by her sons John Jones (Virgie
White), Donald Jones, and Dennis Jones (Margie Glickman Jones). She is survived by her son Ricky Jones,
and her daughters Lisa Theus (William Theus), and Angela Lewis (Samuel Lewis).
Dorothy was also the proud grandmother of John Jones Jr., Roshune Bracy (Christopher), Meagan Lawrence
(Renard), Spencer Marquez-Jones (Taylor), Karis Theus, Breanna Lewis, Dominique Lewis, Kyle Theus,
Granville Lewis, and Corey Lewis. Additionally, she was a loving great-grandmother to Jada, Jaden, Camrin,
Kennedy, Brayden and Bryson Lewis, and Brayden and Bryson Marquez-Jones.
Dorothy is survived by her beloved sisters Beatrice "Lady" Merriweather, Helen Thomas, and Lenell Lanier
(Roy Lanier), as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives who loved her dearly.
In addition to her beloved family, Dorothy leaves behind many dear friends who will miss her immensely. She
was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Fannie Davis, and other loved ones who have welcomed her
into eternity with open arms.
A Mother's love is something
that no one can explain,
It is made of deep devotion
and of sacrifice and pain,
It is endless and unselfish
and enduring come what may
For nothing can destroy it
or take that love away...
It is patient and forgiving
when all others are forsaking,
And it never fails or falters
even though the heart is breaking...
It believes beyond believing
when the world around condemns,
And it glows with all the beauty
of the rarest, brightest gems...
It is far beyond defining,
it defies all explanation,
And it still remains a secret
like the mysteries of creation...
A many splendored miracle
man cannot understand
And another wondrous evidence
of God's tender guiding hand.
