Dorothy Mae Lacey, 89, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 8:30 pm April 21, 2025 at Stonebridge Memory Care in Mount Vernon, Illinois. She was born August 4, 1935 in Waltonville, Illinois to the late Mirvin A. and Anita Mae (Newbury) Martin. Dorothy married Eddie Q. Lacey on October 21, 1956 in Sesser, Illinois. He preceded her in death on September 13, 2018.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Rickey Lacey and wife, Marla of Mount Vernon; daughter, Jennifer Morris and Mike O'Rear of DuBois, Illinois; grandchildren, Miranda Tucker and husband, Justin of Nardin, Oklahoma, Kelly Kelley and husband, Luke of Akin, Illinois, and Jace Morris and wife, Megan of Mount Vernon; great-grandchildren, Karlie Davis, Talon Tucker, Laine Tucker, Rickey Tucker, Quincy Tucker, Kenna Kelley, Kolt Kelley, Kase Kelley, Jorja Morris, and June Morris; brother, Ernie Martin; sister-in-law, Pat Mocaby of Whittington, Illinois; treasured member of the family, Jamie Storey and family; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her beloved husband and parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her brother, Joe Martin; and sister-in-law, Becky Martin.
Dorothy was a faithful member of Horse Prairie Missionary Baptist Church. She was an avid quilter and worked as a seamstress at the Garment Factory in her early years. Dorothy was a cosmetologist and owned and operated a beauty shop in Waltonville for many years. She enjoyed babysitting and taking care of others. Dorothy will be remembered as a devoted mother, treasured grandmother, dear sister, and loving friend to many.
A Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 29, 2025 from 9:00 am to 11:30 am at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A Funeral Service will begin at 11:30 am with Mr. Jonathan Schnautz officiating. Interment will follow at Horse Prairie Cemetery in Sesser. Memorials may be made in Dorothy's honor to Horse Prairie Cemetery or SSM Hospice.
