Dorothy Mae Anderson Matheny, age 88 of Gulfport, passed away on Friday, January 19, 2024.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 58 1/2 years, Marvin G. Matheny; her parents, Mary Dean Anderson and Harry Harmon Anderson; her sisters, Mary Evelyn Nicholas and Alice Morgan; and her brother Harry Anderson.
She is survived by her sons, Michael Matheny, Jerry Matheny and Benny Matheny (Cecilia); her daughter, Penny Bond (Chris); her grandchildren, Dustin Matheny (Julie), Damon Matheny (Lucia), Crystal Cook (Mike), Lance Holly (Bryttni), Deven Dubuisson (Zandra), Molly Wallace (Dillon), Cortney Holly, Cassie Lynn, Paige Bond (Ethan Nichols), and Mason Bond; great-grandchildren, Johnathan Matheny (Courtney Lewis), Jailyn, Dawson and Lulu Matheny, Tyler and Jacob Cook, Landon and Cohen Holly, Brooklyn and Jackson Mitchell, Zia and Dax Dubuisson, Harmony Wallace, Londyn and Ashton.
Dorothy graduated from Oak Grove in Hattiesburg in 1953. She was a dedicated housewife, homemaker, and babysitter who could watch 14 kids at once. She loved gardening and fishing always, bowling in the 70's, darts in the 80's, and dirt track racing in the 90's.
We would like to give a special thanks to Mom's caregivers that have become a big part of our family over the years; Misty Bertucci, Lisa Hammett Howell, Teresa Palacios, Brianna Cameron, Kimberly Dean, Beverly Baker O'Connell, Dawn Lafontaine, and Tammy Pittman.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 27, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM with service beginning at 11:00 AM at Riemann Family Funeral Home 19130 Commission Road Long Beach, MS 39501. The interment will be at Gulf Pines Memorial Gardens.
