Dorothy McMurrer

Dorothy E. McMurrer of Lake Muskoday, Roscoe, NY and Vernon, N.J. passed away peacefully on Jan. 5th, 2026 surrounded by her loving family, she was 91.

The daughter of John and Margaret Gillen, she was born on Feb. 6th, 1934 in Brooklyn, New York.

Dorothy's career talents crossed many fields including real estate and executive recruiting to name a few. But her family are most proud of her many volunteer efforts throughout her life, most notably her commitment to the 1st Way Life Center, Monticello, N.Y. and an active member of St. Mary's Church in Obernburg, N.Y. and St. Francis de sales Church in Vernon, N.J. and her devotion to St. Gerard.

Dorothy met the love of her life, her husband Gerry in Brooklyn, N.Y. where they began to raise their large family. Both had a strong devotion to their faith and love of family which greatly informed their children. She was a lover of life, faith, sports, family and truly walked the talk.

Dorothy is survived by her children: Marie Blado and husband Phil of Bloomfield, N.J., Dorothy Fachner of Montclair, N.J., Kathleen Gregory of Bloomingdale, N.J. Gerald McMurrer and wife Nancy of Kinnelon, N.J. Patrick McMurrer and partner Greg of San Francisco, California, Stephen McMurrer and wife Deanna of Portland, Oregon and Thomas McMurrer and wife Julia of Brooklyn, N.Y. Two sisters: Kathleen McLaughlin of Warwick, N.Y. and Frances Martin and husband John of Montclair, N.J. Ten grandchildren, three great grand sons and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be Sunday, Jan. 11th at Scanlan's Funeral Home, Pompton Plains, N.J. from 1-5pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, Jan. 12th at 11am at St. Francis de Sales church in Vernon, N.J.
