Dorothy J. Pierson

WESTERLY - Dorothy J. (Fitzgerald) Pierson, 93, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 15, 2025 in Westerly, Rhode Island. She was the loving wife of the late Oscar Pierson. Dorothy was born in Hartford, Connecticut, to the late William H. and Catherine Fitzgerald. She was the youngest of four children.

Dorothy worked as a receptionist for The Washington Trust Company in Westerly for many years as well as Chartwell Reinsurance in Stamford, CT and as a secretary with the Fairfield Connecticut Police Department. Of all of her accomplishments, her most cherished and rewarding role was that of a mother to her three daughters and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She leaves behind her three children, Christina Monesmith (Rick) of Ocoee, FL; Lisa Mastrandrea (John) of Westerly; and Kitty Varga (Mark) of Greenwich, CT; seven grandchildren, Kevin Arsenault, Amy Arsenault (PJay Bernard), Taylor Monesmith, Julia and Jessica Mastrandrea, Tyler and Chloe Varga; two great-grandchildren, JJ and Brooklyn Bernard as well as sister-in-law Delores Fitzgerald and several nieces and nephews. Dorothy was predeceased by her brother William F. Fitzgerald; sister Mary E. Antoch; brother James T. Fitzgerald; brother-in-law Anthony Antoch; and sister-in-law Marion Fitzgerald.

Dorothy has left behind a legacy of love and will forever be remembered by all whose lives she touched.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am on Tuesday, December 30th at Immaculate Conception Church, 111 High St., Westerly. Burial will follow at First Hopkinton Cemetery, Chase Hill Rd., Ashaway. Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly is in charge of the arrangements.
