Dorothy A Pratt, 78, of Jacksonville, FL, passed away on Sunday, July 6 th , 2025. Dorothy was born in Quincy, MA on July 30, 1946, to Lloyd and Harriett Smith. Dorothy grew up in Marshfield, MA and attended Marshfield High School until her senior year, when she moved with her parents to Edgewater, Florida. Dorothy graduated from New Smyrna Beach high school in New Smyrna Beach, FL in 1964. Shortly after graduating from high school Dorothy moved back to MA to live with her beloved grandmother, Alice Waldron.
In 1965, Dorothy met her future husband, Charles E Pratt, and they married on August 6, 1966, in a small ceremony in Weymouth, MA. Two years later, in 1968, Dorothy and Charles’s only child, Sandra, was born. After 4 years of living in Pembroke, the family settled in Carver, MA where Dorothy worked as an accountant and comptroller for various local firms in the Plymouth/Kingston area. In 2005, the couple moved to Jacksonville, FL to enjoy their retirement.
Dorothy loved classical music, Russian history, live orchids and spending time with her daughter and her daughter’s cat, Mia.
Dorothy is preceded in death by: Her parents, Lloyd, and Harriet Smith; her sister, Alice Burlington and her husband, Charles Pratt.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandie Pratt Ekern, her son-in-law, Douglas Ekern, three nieces and two nephews, her dear friend, Marion Gill and her beloved Grandcat, Mia.
After cremation, Dorothy’s remains will be returned to Massachusetts by her daughter to be interred in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne where she will join her beloved husband, Charles Pratt.
Arrangements were made by Naugle Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Jacksonville, FL.
En lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Jacksonville Humane Society.
