Dorothy W. Rouner, age 95, of 2001 S.E. Wilmar Drive, Quincy died Monday, March 5, 2012 at 4:35 pm in Good Samaritan Home.
She was born November 29, 1916 on a small farm near Kahoka, Missouri, a daughter of Leo Harris and Myrtle Whaley Dorsey. Dorothy was the oldest of three sisters. When her mother died, Dorothy, then 7 years old, and her two sisters were raised by their aunt, Maude Hodges, also of Kahoka.
Dorothy graduated from Kahoka High School in 1934. Then she attended Gem City Business College and became a bookkeeper before her marriage to Dr. James L. Rouner in Hannibal, Missouri on April 25, 1937. Dorothy attended (then) Quincy College and later at John Wood College where she learned to paint in water color. She entered exhibits and won awards. She enjoyed competitive golf at Quincy Country Club and at the Illinois Seniors Golf events. She taught at the First Union Congregational Church for 8 years in the Primary Department. She was a member of the Quincy Service League, a 50 year member of the Quincy Medical Society, and a charter member of the Great River Water Color Society.
Often when she watched the sunrise, she repeated a biblical verse, "this is the day the Lord hath made. Rejoice and be glad in it."
She is survived by two sons, Bob (Judy) Rouner of League City, Texas, and Bill (Nancy) Rouner of St. Paul, Minnesota, and 5 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her son James K. Rouner, and
her two sisters, Virginia Beals and Helen Melroy.

Burial: Greenmount Cemetery
Memorials: The Community Foundation of the Quincy Area or the First Union Congregational Church
