Services for Dorothy Schmith, age 99, of Paullina who passed away on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at Orange City Area Health System. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina with Rev. Donald Meyer, officiating.

Burial will be at Liberty Township Cemetery in Calumet.

Visitation with family present will from 10 A.M. until time of the service at Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina.

Arrangements are under the care of the Eldridge Family Funeral Home in Paullina.

Dorothy Lillie Marie Schmith the daughter of George and Lillie (Wiese) Schmidt was born December 10, 1925 in Cherokee County, Iowa. She attended schools in Larrabee, Calumet and graduated from Gaza High School in 1943. She was united in marriage to Raymond Hoppe on February 20, 1944 in Calumet, Iowa. They farmed around Sutherland until moving to a farm near Germantown, Iowa. Ray Passed Away on May 16, 1978.To this union 5 children were born. On April 16, 1983 she was united in marriage to Clarence Schmith in Paullina, Iowa. After their marriage the couple made their home in Paullina where for 20 years Dorothy was employed part-time at the Hawkeye Bar. Clarence preceded her in death on May 29, 2014 and Dorothy continued to make her home in Paullina. She passed Away on Saturday May 24, 2025 at the Orange City Area Health System reaching the age of 99 years 5 months and 14 days.

She was baptized on January 1, 1926 at Zion Evangelical Church in Calumet and later confirmed on April 10, 1983 at Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina where she currently was a member. She enjoyed spending time with her family, baking to give goodies to other people and looking through catalogs buying little gifts for people. It was known she wanted no visitors between 11 A.M. and 1 P.M. to watch her soap operas.

Dorothy is survived by two daughters Connie (Tim) Neuroth of Webster City, Iowa and Sandra (Fiance Greg Simonson) Appeldorn of Des Moines, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren and 15 great great Grandchildren two sons-in-law Miles (Mary) Puhrmann of Paullina, Iowa and Ricardo Dominguez of St. Paul, Minnesota and a daughter-in-law Cindy Hoppe (Neal) Drefke of Spencer, Iowa .

She was preceded in death by her two husbands Ray and Clarence; two daughters Sharon Puhrmann and Linda Nelson, and son James Hoppe, son-in-law Dennis Appeldorn one great grandchild, one great great grandson, parents, 4 brothers and 2 sisters.

Memorials may be made to the Orange City Hospital Hospice
