DOROTHY FAYE SETSER

July 30, 1936 – October 26, 2025

Dorothy Faye Setser, a woman of quiet strength and timeless grace, passed peacefully in the grace of the Lord on October 26, 2025, at the age of 89.

Born on July 30, 1936, in Springdale, Arkansas, Dorothy was the youngest of nine children. From her early days, she carried herself with elegance and poise, not only in her outward appearance but in the way she treated others – with kindness, dignity, and a generous heart.

On May 13, 1954, she married the love of her life, Howard Ralph Setser. Together they built a beautiful life, raising two children, Terry and Tami. They shared 69 wonderful years of marriage until Howard's passing in 2023.

Dorothy dedicated most of her life to working full-time as a bookkeeper, where her meticulous nature and love for numbers made her an invaluable part of every team. She also had a passion for antiques and collectibles, finding joy in the stories that each item carried.

Dorothy loved taking their grandkids camping at the beach and playing cards with them. They made many trips with their grandkids and enjoyed every one of them. She and Howard loved camping with their camping group and took many trips with them. In their earlier years they enjoyed dancing with the Joaquin Square Dance Group.

Dorothy's dream was to own her own business. In 1992, she opened "Nana's Country Cupboard" a gourmet food and gift store that quickly became a beloved establishment in the community. Dorothy and Howard had a Christmas store at the mall during the holidays for a few years. In 2000 they opened Nana's Country Cupboard full time. Their joint venture was a testament to their enduring partnership and entrepreneurial spirit.

Deeply involved in her community, Dorothy was a long time contributing member and past President of ABWA (American Business Women's Association). She remained active in church life at Calvary Bible Church, where she gave her life to Christ in the 1970s. Her faith was her foundation, and she lived it daily through compassion, service, and unwavering devotion.

Dorothy's life was rich with the simple joys she treasured most, square dancing, camping, cooking, and above all, spending time with her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a nurturing presence to her family, always ready to offer a helping hand, a listening ear, or a warm meal. Her legacy is one of elegance, steadfast love, and quiet generosity.

Dorothy is survived by her son Terry Setser, and wife, Holly; daughter, Tami Shanholtzer, and husband, Seth; and her adoring grandchildren: Lacey Walrath (Chris), Lucas Shanholtzer (Fay), CL Simmons, Landon Shanholtzer (Elena), Katie Frederick (Ashton). She was blessed with 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Samuel Clifford Easley and Lona Mae Easley, her husband Howard, and her eight siblings: Claude, Byrl, Olen, Ralph, Homer, Walter, Helen, and Lina Mae.

Dorothy will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved herbut her spirit lives on in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and all whose lives were blessed by her graceful presence.

Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, November 13, 2025 at 12:00 pm at Mission Family Mortuary, at 531 California Ave, Bakersfield, CA 93304.

Burial service will follow at 2:00 pm at the Bakersfield National Cemetery at 30338 East Bear Mountain Blvd, Arvin, CA 93203 (Off Highway 58)
