Mrs. Dorothy Helen Byrd Shermer, 80, passed away Wednesday, November 13, 2024. She was born July 1, 1944 in Surry County to the late John Preston Byrd and Hazel Settle Byrd. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Cudd; brothers, Jerry Byrd, and David Byrd; and a granddaughter, Alicia Shermer. Mrs. Shermer graduated from East Wilkes High School. She loved gardening and in her early years she enjoyed sewing. She is survived by her children, Jimmy (Crystal) Shermer, Kenny (Angie) Shermer, Barbara Brown; grandchildren, Kyle (Lakin) Shermer, Kayla Brown, Lauren Brown, Forrestt Shermer; great-grandchildren, Gatlyn Shermer, Brock Lashley, Kaiden Brown, Alexia Taylor, MacKenna Jarrett, Landon Brown; brother, Bobby (Alice) Byrd. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM, Monday, November 18, 2024 at West Yadkin Assembly of God Church. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 2:00 PM with Rev. Bobby Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville is serving the Shermer family.
