Dorothy Strickland Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home on Dec. 19, 2025.
Dorothy Williams Strickland, age 95, of Fayetteville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 16, 2025.

Dorothy was born on August 2, 1930, in Sampson County to the late Alex Williams and Mary Alice Faircloth Williams. She was a devoted woman of faith and a founding member of Northwood Temple, where she remained actively involved for as long as her health permitted.

Dorothy was known for her strong work ethic and caring spirit. She was employed by Belk and later retired from the Cumberland County School System, where she worked in the cafeteria serving countless students with kindness and dedication. She had a true passion for cooking, and nothing brought her more joy than preparing Thanksgiving meals for her family, a tradition cherished by all who gathered at her table.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Craven S. Strickland; her sister, Naomi Kessner and Daisy Hall; and her brothers, Oliver "Ham" Williams and Alex "Dunk" Williams.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Martha Strickland Romero and husband Jimmy of Oxnard, California; her son, Stephen Wayne Strickland of Charlotte; sisters, Lottie Horne and Linda Finley; brothers, Delbert Williams and William Carl "June" Finley; grandchildren, Stephanie (Nile), Samantha, Melissa, Bonnie, Laura (Henry), Racheal (Anthony), Ricky (Nicole), Serena (Heriberto) and Santiago; and 12 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 to 11:50 a.m. on Tuesday, December 23, 2005, at Northwood Temple. A celebration of life service will be held at 12:00 noon, followed by burial at Lafayette Memorial Park.

Dorothy was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her warmth, faith, and generosity will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home, 545 Ramsey Street, Fayetteville, North Carolina 28301.
