CEDAR FALLS- Dorothy Jean (Solie) Van Gundy, 85, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, December 4, 2023.
She suffered through dementia for years and is now at peace. Dorothy was born February 13, 1938, in Spring Grove, MN, the daughter of Thomas James and Pearl (Dahle) Solie. On June 18, 1955, she was united in marriage to Wesley Gene Van Gundy at the Stone Church in Houston, MN. In 1955, they moved to
Waterloo, IA, then Cedar Falls where she did housework for families and worked at the Cedar Falls Maid Rite. She enjoyed baking, cooking, cleaning, quilting, gardening, volunteer work and spending time with family.
Dorothy is survived by her sons, Dave (Deb) of Dike, IA, and Dan (Kristin) of Ankeny; daughter, Debbie of Marshalltown; grandchildren, Nicole (Solomon), Amber, Josh, Danielle (Gary), Kailey, Wesley, Chell "Journey" and Tom; two great grandchildren, Shailee and Kyla; two brothers, Tom (Arliss) of Fort Collins, CO and Howard (Lynette) of Spring Grove, MN. Preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Carl; and sister, Lois.
Funeral services 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 8, 2023, at the Nazareth Lutheran Church-Larsen Chapel. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church on Friday. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Croix Hospice or the church.
