Dorothy Marie Washington

Dorothy Marie Davis Washington was born on April 22, 1933 in Groesbeck, Texas to the parents of Thee Davis and Linnie Mae Brooks. She began and completed her formal education in Ponca City, Oklahoma.

Her spiritual journey began in her teenage years when she became a born-again, baptized Christian, whose faith was not only professed but practiced daily by demonstrating compassion, humility, and service to those in need. She was moved with compassion when she embraced the responsibility of taking care of her mother when her health began to decline. Her spiritual submission to God prepared her for the future God planned for her when she became a pastor's wife.

Dorothy shared 38 years of marriage with her beloved husband, Rev. Thomas H. Washington, who pastored "Bible Way Church". Together, they built a life rooted in faith, ministry, and service. Dorothy was a devoted mother to her daughter, Wunderful Washington Mathias. And a loving stepmother to Mr. Bobby Earl and Mrs. Bobbie Jean Washington, all who preceded her in death. Her family was her joy, and her love for them was unwavering.

She also shared a special bond with Jeralyn Pashawn Brooks, who she helped raise with the same love, guidance, and nurturing spirit she gave so freely to others. In return, Jeralyn provided devoted care, respect and support to Dorothy, especially in her later years. Their relationship was one of deep mutual love, respect, and gratitude.

Dorothy and Rev. Washington became members of MiracleLand Church under the leadership of Dr. Earl E. Allen the founding Pastor. The Washington's were sincerely committed to helping MiracleLand grow spiritually and numerically. Their presence was always refreshing and encouraging. After her husband's passing Dorothy remained committed to MiracleLand Church under the new leadership of Pastors Brian and Kimberly Allen. She continued to work tirelessly until her health began to decline.

She dedicated many impactful and rewarding years to public education. As a teacher, she enhanced the lives of countless students and the faculty. Teaching was not just her profession, but a spiritual calling. She retired from the Houston Independent School District and the Galena Park School District in May 1986. She also served others through volunteer adult teaching opportunities at Star of Hope and other Nursing Home Facilities

Dorothy leaves a lasting legacy of a fervent prayer life, unwavering faith, and a gift of love for all people. Though she will be deeply missed, we rejoice in knowing she rests in eternal peace, reunited with loved ones and forever in the presence of her Savior. She will be remembered as a kind, nurturing, and gentle woman whose life reflected her deep love for the Lord.
