Mr. Dorsey Talbott age 85 years, a lifelong resident of Belington, departed this life Friday evening February 6, 2026 in the Tygart Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center at Belington. Although he had been in declining health death was unexpected.
Dorsey was born April 9, 1940 at
Belington, WV a son of the late Luther Alexander and Evelyn Virginia Golden Talbott. On September 2, 1961at Deep Creek, Maryland he was united in marriage to the former Jeanie Poling who survives at their home in Belington.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Michael W. Talbott and wife Charlene, two granddaughters; Taylor R. Matlick and husband Elijah and Lillie F. Talbott all of Belington. Great-grandchildren surviving are; Jackson Lee Matlick, Dawson Joel Matlick, Lowen Rue Matlick and Scottlyn Roan Matlick. Additional survivors include two sisters Retha June Dickenson of Philippi, WV, Brenda Ann Foy and husband Larry of Belington, several nieces and nephews and numerous cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers; Milford Dale Talbott, Marvin Gerald Talbott, two sisters; Carolyn Sue Southerly, Judy Marlene Canterbury, and his father and mother-in-law Jack and Opal Poling who thought of him as a son.
Dorsey attended the Schools of Barbour County and before his illness was attending the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Belington. He began his working career at the early age of sixteen for Talbott Logging and then went to work for the Elkins Limestone Plant where he was employed as an end loader operator. In 1975 he went to work for Republic Steel Coal Company until 1987 when the mine closed. He then gained employment with Penn Line Service from which he retired. His entire working career centered around running heavy equipment, and had the reputation of being one of the best operators around. In his earlier years he was a member of the Belington Kiwanis Club, served on the Belington City council, he belonged to the Belington Masonic Lodge #125 AF & AM, the United Mine Workers of America and after retirement he enthusiastically assisted his son at the Talbott Funeral Home in Belington.
Dorsey had a great work ethic and was always thankful to have employment. He was a great provider for his family, a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. His son and wife would like to thank everyone who sent cards and well wishes during his illness.
Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home 56 N. Brandenburg Street in Belington on Tuesday February 10th, 2026 from 11am to 2pm the funeral hour when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jimmie E. Tallman and Pastor David Shelton officiating. Interment will follow in the Concord Cemetery near Belington where the Belington Masonic Lodge #125 AF & AM will conduct the Masonic Burial Rite. The family ask that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the Concord Cemetery c/o Brian Poling P.O. Box 231
