Charles Douglas "Doug" Brownlee, age 58, of Dublin, passed away on Friday, September 27, 2024.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Keela Mullis Brownlee, of Dublin; his three daughters: Lindsey (Josh) Knight, of Dublin; Karly (Joshua) White, of Dudley; and Kameron (Will Allen) Brownlee of Athens; grandchildren; Charleigh Knight, Emma, and Tiger White, and Stetson Allen; mother, Patricia Skipper Brownlee, of Dublin; his other child, "Mattie Dog", and several aunts, uncles, extended family members and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father, Charles Edward Brownlee; maternal grandparents, James Noonie and Sally Mae Skipper, and paternal grandparents, Charles Edgar and Fern Brownlee.
Born on October 18, 1965, Doug's life was one marked by dedication, service, and the joy he found in the simple pleasures of life.
A proud 1983 graduate of West Laurens High School, Doug's pursuit of knowledge led him to further his education at Oconee Fall Line Tech College, where he earned an electronics degree that would set the foundation for his lifelong career in communications. Doug was a pillar in the Laurens County community, ensuring that law enforcement, first responders, and emergency services could communicate effectively, safeguarding countless lives through his expertise.
For the past eight years, Doug was a vital part of Mullis Electric, where he not only contributed his skills but also supported his wife in running the family business. His professional life was a testament to his commitment to his community and his ability to lead with both competence and kindness.
Doug was a member of Dexter Baptist Church and his faith was a cornerstone in his daily interactions and his approach to life's challenges.
As a former member of Troop 585, which was led by his uncle, Mike Skipper, Doug proudly achieved Dexter's first-ranked Eagle Scout and was also a member of the Order of Arrow. This was an early indication of his leadership qualities and his love for the outdoors. This love never waned as he became an avid outdoorsman, finding solace and joy in the embrace of nature. One of Doug's greatest pleasures was gardening, a hobby that allowed him to cultivate beauty and share the fruits of his labor with friends and family.
He also enjoyed cooking and bringing people together over a meal. However, the biggest enjoyment in Doug's life was his grandchildren, who brought him immeasurable happiness and pride. Those who knew Doug would describe him as loving, friendly, and selfless. Doug's legacy is one of unwavering love for his family, steadfast service to his community, and a life lived with purpose and joy. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, but his influence will continue to be felt through the lives he touched and the memories he created.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home.
A funeral service celebrating Doug's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at Jefferson Street Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Dublin Memorial Gardens. Rev. Calvin Halcomb will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Bobby LeRoy, Randy "Spook" Spivey, Frank Estep, Mike Ward, Johnathan Cesario, and Tom Klassen.
The family will be at the home of Josh and Karly White.
