Doug Fieger Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 14, 2010.
WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. (AP) - Doug Fieger, leader of the power pop band The Knack who sang on the 1979 hit "My Sharona," has died. He was 57.

The band's manager Jake Hooker says Fieger died Sunday at his home in Woodland Hills near Los Angeles after battling cancer.

Fieger, a Detroit-area native, formed The Knack in 1978. He co-wrote and sang lead vocals on "My Sharona," which held the No. 1 spot for six weeks. Fieger said the song was inspired by a former girlfriend.

The Knack's albums include "Get the Knack" and "... But the Little Girls Understand."

In 2006, Fieger underwent surgery to remove two tumors from his brain.

For Doug...

WEEP NOT FOR ME

Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.

Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.

I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.

Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.

Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.

Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

My best "bud" called me "Sharona" because my last name is similar and he loved that song - now they're both in heaven and they can sing it together. Keep it tuned up boys - I'll be there someday and sing it with you. My sympathies to his family, thanks for all the cool tunes.

Dear Fieger Family:

Please accept our warmest sympathies and be comforted knowing that God is “near to those that are broken at heart, and those who are crushed in spirit he saves.” (Psalm 34: 18). He can give us ‘power beyond what is normal’ to go on from one day to the next. (2 Corinthians 4: 7).

February 23, 2010

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

I am sorry to hear of Doug's passing. He was a great singer. I liked his voice & its distinct sound. When I first heard that song, ooh! how I hated it. Then I decided I would approach listening to it in a more realistic way. I learned that I love that song. I wish he would have wrote more songs & recorded much more.
May Heavenly Father give his family guidance, peace & confort. My heart goes out to them.
God Bless Doug for his contribution to the song, "My Sharona", & to the music industry. May he be at peace & enjoy being in the "Choir of Angels.

Dear Doug's Family: Doug was a truly gifted artist whose music rocked my world when I was only 15. I listened to that KNACK album so much, I had to get a new one. Now I have the CD and it is always in constant rotation on my CD player because it's got this timeless quality unparalled. Everytime I hear "that's what the little girls do", it brings such youthful memories. Love you, Doug. Rest in peace.

YOU HAVE GONE WITH THE WIND
SO FAR AWAY ACROSS THE BLUE

I WHISPER YOUR NAME TO THE

I WHISPER YOUR NAME TO THE
WIND,

THE WIND CARRIES YOUR NAME
SO FAR AWAY ACROSS THE BLUE

THERE'S A FIRE IN THE SKY
AS THE SOUND OF THUNDER AND
LIGHTNING ARE ROARING ACROSS
THE BLUE SKY,

THEN SUDDENLY FROM OUT OF NO
WHERE I HEAR YOUR SWEET
SOFTLY VOICE CALLING OUT TO
ME IN THE WIND;

AND IT BRINGS TEARS OF JOY TO
MY EYES TO HEAR YOUR SWEET
SOFTLY VOICE CALLING OUT TO ME
IN THE WIND.
