Walter "Doug" Howard, 78 years old, of Upland, passed away at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis on Saturday, May 24, 2025.

Doug is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ruth; son, Mark (Cassie) Howard; grandchildren, Jimmy (Jennifer) Moore, Caden Howard, J.J. Faulkner; Jenna (Jason) Swain; great-grandchildren, Ivy, Heavyn, Brinleigh, and Bodie; brother, Tom Howard; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Doug was an Army veteran and a 59-year member of the American Legion and held various offices on the post, district, and department level.

He could often be seen riding around town on his golf cart. He also loved fishing and going to casinos.

He was preceded in death by his parents, W.D. and Martha Howard, son, Jimmy Howard, and sister, Betty Hoss.

Arrangements for Doug have been entrusted to the Jones-Smith Chapel of Armes-Hunt Life Celebration Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 259 North Main Street, Upland, Indiana 46989, where a visitation will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. An American Legion walk-through will take place at 1:00 p.m. with a funeral service immediately following, with Pastor Wes Rediger officiating. Burial will follow the funeral service at Grant Memorial Park, Marion, Indiana.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Legion Department of Indiana Children and Youth.
