Douglas Edward O'Brien, age 67, passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at St. Mary's Essentia Hospital in Superior, WI, surrounded by family.
Doug was born on May 24, 1955, in Superior, WI to parents Alvin and Marty (Khalar) O'Brien. Doug attended Northwestern High School and went right into work after school. He worked a short while as a cook before his long run of bartending at the family bar, the Gopher Hole, where he helped out until his retirement 15 years ago due to back pain. Doug was what many considered to be a professional handyman. He started his own business where he would utilize his skills of sheet rocking and fixing appliances.
Doug got his mother's talent for cooking and loved to feed people. He enjoyed fishing and hunting in his earlier years and slowly became more fond of watching the animals than hunting them. Even though Doug was a great outdoorsman, he loved spending time watching TV, especially the Packer Games. Doug was a wonderful man with many great friendships.
Doug is survived by his loving wife, Elsa O'Brien-Lundberg; children, Autumn O'Brien, Shannon O'Brien, and Alvin (Crystle) Jenson; grandchildren Elijah Zakovec, Noah Zakovec, Quinton Zakovec, Jonas Zakovec, and Lila Zakovec; siblings, Kenny (Judy) O'Brien, Pat (Linda) O'Brien, Michael O'Brien, Tina Blaine, and Debbie (Donny) Bucklund, and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, baby Terry and Daniel; and sisters, Gerri and Kathleen.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, October 8, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at the Highland Cemetery. A potluck celebration of life will be held on October 8th, at 3:00 p.m. at Ina's Place (formerly the Gopher Hole). Feel free to bring a dish to share.
