Doug W. Shimanek

Doug W. Shimanek, age 64, of Orrville, passed away on Monday, June 3, 2024, at Aultman Hospital in Canton, following a period of declining health.
Doug was born on March 23, 1960, in Frankfort, Indiana, to Gilbert and Evelyn (McFarland) Shimanek, graduated from Port Wing (WI) High School in 1979 and attended Huntington University in Indiana, as well as Malone University. He married Kathy Oswald on May 4, 1985, at Martins Mennonite Church in Orrville, and she survives him.
He worked at Smith Dairy for 18 years, Wayne Dalton Door in Dalton for 8 years, and most recently as a Material Handler for D & S Distribution in Wooster for 5 years, retiring in 2023.
Doug enjoyed Chicago sports, golf, hunting, fishing, and Rock'n'Roll. Most of all he loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren, and was looking forward to the arrival of his newest grandchild.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Kathy, are four children, Trent (Brittany Chomyak) Shimanek of Orrville, Tyler (Brittany) Shimanek of Massillon, Troy (Christin) Shimanek of Orrville, and Holly (Joe) Girdlestone of Canal Fulton; seven grandchildren, Ramsey, Amelia and Natalie Shimanek, and Emma, Evan, Claire and Connor Girdlestone; his mother, Evelyn Shimanek of MI; four brothers, Mark Shimanek of Barberton, Matt (Bonnie) Shimanek of MI, Keith (Heather) Shimanek of MI, and Chris (Stephanie) Shimanek of MI; and a sister-in-law, Julie of MI.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gilbert Shimanek; and brother, Paul Shimanek.
Private graveside services will be held at Martins Mennonite Cemetery in Orrville, with Pastor Randy Murray officiating.
