I first met Doug (I always called him Bugsy though) at Barnstormers way back in 1992, and started following him to different gigs to enjoy him & his band. We became friends fairly quickly due to our mutual love of music.

Meeting him at Leland Public School. We taught together, and hung out. Going to miss him!

Oh, his hair, his huge afro, the day we met the new music teacher at Leland in 1975. I learned more about music the first of the two years he spent with us (4th and 5th grades for me) than I had in the 3 1/2 years before. I discovered I could play drums when I was 4, and he was never anything other than completely supportive in the endeavor. I put the sticks down after 4th grade because my dad was considerably older and hated rock music and hated listening to me play along with rock music (on the toy drum set he and Mom got me for Christmas 2nd grade), and I got tired of listening to his gums flap about it. Mr. B told me, "You know, you can pick this back up again in the future any time you want. Natural-born talent does not evaporate, and you possess this. In droves." I picked them back up at 17, and have basically been playing since. My only regret is that I never jammed with him. Monster musician, glorious human being.
