Douglas Bowman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Washburn-McReavy Holcomb-Henry-Boom-Purcell Shoreview Funeral Chapel on Jan. 4, 2026.
Douglas "Doug" Gene Bowman, age 72, of Shoreview, passed away due to complications from Parkinson's disease on December 30th, 2025. He was born on November 30, 1953, and spent most of his life living in Shoreview, MN

Doug was the son of Evangeline and Vernon Bowman, and the beloved brother of Lee Bowman (Shelley) and JoAnn Bowman. He and his wife Julie Allen Bowman met 46 years ago and were married 41 of those years. He was a good, kind, loving and intelligent man and a best friend to his wife as well as a trustworthy friend to many. He was so very proud of his children, Laura Thelen (Joe) and Cory Bowman (Sara), and would do anything to help them. His grandchildren Eloise, Evangeline, and Valeriana were his pride and joy and he loved reading and playing games with them

Doug worked hard at various jobs throughout his life. He started working at the corner grocery when he was just a teenager, delivered pop for Coca Cola, worked construction with his friend Al, and a few more jobs until he finally found his niche at the Buhler Company where he worked for 23 years selling parts for the flour milling equipment they produced.

Doug's first love was motorcycles. Starting as a teenager he would ride his dirt bike in the undeveloped areas of Shoreview and surrounding areas. Eventually getting the first of many motorcycles or as he called them "crotch rockets". He loved the power and the speed and taking road trips on winding roads. His first real date with Julie he showed up on a motorcycle. That might have been the hook that piqued her interest.

Doug enjoyed travel adventures with his family and wife. Their favorite spots were the Black Hills, Florida Gulf Coast, and Arizona where they visited family. Doug also loved spending time on the North Shore of Lake Superior visiting at least once or twice a year. He enjoyed hiking the trails in the parks and walking the rocky beaches to find agates or interesting rocks for his collection. He also got a kick out of balancing rocks on the shore. It was one of the places where he felt most at peace.

He hated the disease that took away his ability to do all the things he loved with those he loved. But he will always be remembered for who he was and the people he touched. Please consider donating to The Michael J Fox Foundation or The Parkinson's Foundation and pray for them to find a cure.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring.
