Douglas Alfred Carnes, a cherished beacon of joy and a devoted Christian, transitioned to be with the Lord unexpectedly on September 19, 2025, in Conroe Texas. Born on August 10, 1936, in Dunville, Ontario, Canada, to Vera and Harry Carnes, Douglas was a man whose life was characterized by deep rooted faith, abundant love, and an immeasurable capacity for kindness.
He is survived by a loving family that spans generations, including his siblings Diane Rogers; his three children: Rosemarie Carnes/ Landgraf and her fiancee Thomas John Gutgsell, Rickie Allen Carnes, and Teddy Alfred Carnes and his wife Tiffany Carnes. He was a proud grandfather to Mary grace Henderson, Jack Eugene Henderson, Leah Emma Henderson, Lucas Samuel Slaton, Robert Carnes and his wife Courtney Carnes, Jessica Carnes, Courtney Kennedy and her spouse Grayson Wallace, Alessi Henson, Katelyn Cates, and her spouse Josh Allen, Mark Cates Jr and his fiancée Ryann Nicole, Hope Cates and Aaron Cates and his spouse Shawna Dyson. In addition, his legacy continues through his stepchildren: Holly Anne Haneline and her husband Brian Haneline, Shane Cates, Mark Cates and his wife Regina Cates, and beloved of great grand children: who brought him immeasurable joy: Owen, Jaxon, Aurora, Maddie Carnes, Dominic Carnes, Tyler Carnes, Chrissy, Cooper, Kaylee, Jane , Kynslee, Kolden, Kamryn, Amara, and Dwight. His nephews: Harry and his wife Dinakay, David as well as his Great niece Deanna Donnelly and her spouse Benjamin and niece: Amanda Wood also carry forward his memory.
Throughout his lifetime, Douglas immersed himself in a variety of trades from working in restaurants to pest control, from delivering newspaper's to being a handyman and maintaining homes and hearts alike. His work ethic was paralleled only by his generosity and undying commitment to his faith. Douglas possessed a natural ability to strike up a conversation with strangers overwhelming them with laughter and the invaluable gift of his attention. His jokes and lighthearted spirit we're not just sides of his personality but acts of service that brought brightness into the lives of all he encountered.
Douglas was a constant presence of support and love he embodied what it meant to be a family man through and through. Alongside his beloved wife Juanita Rose Carnes, he cherished every shared moment and together, they were the perfect example of unity the glue that held not only their relationship but the entire family together. Their mutual forgiveness and love were the cornerstones of their home and an inspiration to those lucky enough to witness it. His undying devotion, especially manifest in his role as a father, was a testament to his character Douglas was the perfect example of what it meant to be a provider, a protector, a mentor, and a friend. He had an open heart, ever ready to extend a helping hand to those in need.
In regard to his spiritual life, Douglas was as servant as he was compassionate. Prayer sessions with family and friends were regular, calm experiences where his faith radiated and touched the hearts of many. Through his actions, Douglas illustrated the beauty of the Christian spirit, living by principles that both comforted and uplifted those around him.
Douglas's impact extended beyond family ties, touching numerous lives and leaving a permanent imprint. As a father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, he will be remembered for his capacity to enliven spirits and soothe souls. The lives he touched will retain the warmth of his love and the guidance of his wisdom.
As we remember Douglas Alfred Carnes, let us draw inspiration from the words of the great evangelist, Billy Graham: "My home is in Heaven. I'm just traveling through this world." Douglas lived as though each day was a step closer to his eternal home, treating each person as a fellow traveler to be loved and nurtured.
