Douglas Dinsmore Obituary

DOUGLAS DENNIS DINSMORE
April 22, 1941 ˜ April 7, 2021

Douglas “Doug” Dennis Dinsmore, 79, of Vancouver, WA, passed away at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center April 7, 2021.
Born in Worthington, MN, April 22, 1941, to Elton and Winifred Dinsmore, Doug was the oldest of three children. Doug’s parents moved the family to Washougal, WA, in 1952, where he graduated from Washougal High School in 1959. He worked as a Journeyman in the floor-covering industry and went on to serve as a business agent for the AFL-CIO for 14 years.
Oregon Governor Vic Atiyeh appointed Doug to the Oregon Board of Parole in 1982. After his term of eight years, he returned to his Union roots, working in the carpet-laying industry with his nephew, Mitch Dinsmore until he retired in 1998.
Doug was President and a Life Member of the Vancouver Trap and Gun Club for the last 12 years. He was very proud of his accomplishments there, and he loved the camaraderie of the Club’s membership, who called him the heart and soul of the organization. Doug was also a member of the Camas/Washougal Wildlife League, and an Elk’s member for 38 years. He spent eight years going through the Chairs to become the Exalted Ruler of the Independence Oregon Elks #1950.
Doug enjoyed being on his boat fishing the Pacific Ocean and cruising along the Columbia River. He fished and camped with his family and spent time bird hunting in Jordan Valley, OR. Doug also loved flowers and hummingbirds. On any given day he could be found feeding the squirrels and the birds in his front yard, and most importantly, “his” wild mallard ducks. He happily spent hours watching them and they learned to trust him.
At the end of his days, Doug had proved himself to be a gentleman and a man of his word, a proud Union man, a staunch labor advocate and a respected public servant.
Doug is, and will forever be, deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his life-companion, Charlotte “Charlie” Gleason; his brother, Jerry Dinsmore; his daughter, Denise Davidson; his three stepdaughters, Wendy, Tish and Kelly Gleason; as well as his nephew Mitch Dinsmore; along with numerous nieces and nephews and 15 grand and step-grandchildren.
His funeral will be held at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, 1101 NE 112th Ave., Vancouver, WA, on Thursday, April 22, at 3:00 p.m. Guests will be required to wear masks.
Special thanks to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center, Vancouver Clinic and Dr. Chad Lowe of Humana. In lieu of flowers, family request donations be made to the Elks National Foundation.

Doug was the face of the Vancouver Trap Club and he will be missed dearly by the BIA and its members that attended the annual shooing event.

Doug was such a great guy. He was a man who was kind and funny and generous with his time. He always had kind words for those around him. He was a great neighbor. Taking care of his darling little wife was his major focus. He loved her so much. He was such a good man. He is leaving us to soon. We send our love and prayers to his family. We miss seeing him outside feeding all of his critters. Especially his ducks that wander in daily. We love you Doug.

It's a shame when someone wonderful dies. It's only then we realize how much they meant to everyone. Sometimes we grieve, sometimes we celebrate, but either way it was time to let them leave. Safe jouney
