Douglas “Doug” Clarence Byrd, 73, passed away Tuesday June 10, 2025. He was born January 3, 1952 in Alamance County to the late Clarence Richard Byrd and Lena Clayton Byrd. Doug was the owner and operator of Yadkin Dairy Freeze from 2005 - 2020. He was an avid Duker fan, especially Duke Basketball. He enjoyed all sports, playing and watching, but his favorite was coaching. Doug spent many years on a ball field being a coach and an umpire. Later on fishing with the grandkids was his favorite way to pass the time. He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are his wife Martha Harmon Byrd; children Shane Byrd, Monica Byrd (Jake) Fulton, Douglas (Melissa) Byrd; step children Traci (Richie) Zachary; Ricky (Katie) Willard; grandchildren Cooper Byrd, Austin (Brittani) Zachary, Brody Willard, Jaxon Byrd, Otto Willard, Barrett Byrd, Truett Byrd, Presley Fulton; great grandchild Baylor Zachary; sisters Cynthia (Mike) Speer, Martha Byrd; brother Dale (Penny) Byrd. The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM Friday June 13, 2025 at Gentry Family Funeral Service. A memorial service will be conducted following the visitation in the Gentry Family Chapel by Rev. Jamie Reavis. Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville is serving the Byrd family.
