Douglas Eugene Hockom, 76, of Thomas, WV, passed away on January 27, 2026, at his home in the Pines. Born on November 15, 1949, in Atlantic, Iowa, he was the son of the late Eugene and Marilyn (Switzer) Hockom.
Doug was a Seabee for the United States Navy and served during the Vietnam War. He spent 50 years as a Union Iron Worker and, in 2001, moved to Tucker Co., where he worked at the Mt. Storm Power Plant as a Superintendent. He loved skiing and teaching people how to ski. He was an avid member of Professional Ski Instructors of America (P.S.I.A.) for over twenty years. He was a ski instructor at Timberline Mountain, Canaan Valley, and out west, and he has consistently been the most requested ski instructor at Timberline Mountain.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Browning; two children, Doug E. Hockom Jr. and wife Wendy, Carol Peters and husband Robert, both of Sioux City, Iowa; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dixie Pedersen and husband Larry, of Atlantic, Iowa.
Doug's wishes to be cremated have been honored. There will be a memorial service held in the Spring. The Fredlock & Fenner Funeral Home, Davis Chapel, is honored to be serving the Hockom family.
