Douglas Horton, 78, of Bladenboro went to his eternal home on Tuesday, March 8, 2022. He was preceded by his parents, Thomas Monroe Horton and Magdalene Floyd Horton, and one brother, Darryl Horton. Douglas leaves behind his loving wife, Nettie Burney Horton of the home, daughter Jacqueline Horton Gooden (Randy), son Stephen Douglas Horton (Teresa), all of Bladenboro, siblings, Kay Horton Bullard (Charles) of Cerro Gordo, Ronald “Ronnie” Dean Horton (Melinda) of Rocky Point, Thomas “Tommy” M. Horton Jr. (Theresa) of Chadbourn, five grandchildren, Candace Gooden Long (Matthew), Stephen Colby Horton (Tina), Haley Maranda Gooden, Channing Trace Horton (Madison), and Camryn Isabella Horton, and five great grandchildren, Kylie Alana Long, William Able Long, Lyla Reid Horton, Layken Reece Horton, and Stephen Colby Horton, Jr. “SJ”.

Douglas was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. His wife was his best friend, always by his side. He enjoyed riding the grands on his golf cart or scooter. His favorite past times were family dinners, camping with the family, fishing, and traveling when able. Douglas was a hard worker with a heart of gold. He enjoyed gardening and would often be seen on his tractor helping his neighbors with garden preparation. He left a legacy of strength, love, and dedication for generations to come.

The family will receive friends from 2-3 pm on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at the Bladenboro Chapel of Bladen Gaskins followed by a funeral service at 3 pm with Rev. Warren Hill officiating. Burial will follow the services in the Hickory Grove Cemetery in Bladenboro.
