Douglas Jensen Obituary

Douglas Keith Jensen passed away at his home in Denver on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at the age of 75.

Born October 29, 1950, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Doug spent most of his life in Denver. He attended Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy High Schools, where he met his future wife, Leigh Anne Slatten. They bonded over a shared love of the arts, spending their early years singing in choirs and performing in plays and musicals. That love endured throughout their lives, as they remained connected to Denver’s theater and music communities.

By trade, Doug worked as a business manager and accountant—steady, dependable work that suited his temperament. His heart, however, belonged to the arts. He loved theater and music, read widely, and carried a lifelong aspiration to be a writer and poet. Even in retirement, he continued to write, participating in writers’ circles and workshops, listening carefully, revising patiently, and savoring a well-turned phrase.

Doug was a quiet man. He thought deeply and chose his words with deliberate care, attentive to their rhythm and sound. Though he could seem intimidating at first, beneath his reserve was a deep tolerance and openness shaped by curiosity and respect for others. He was especially attuned to his senses, particularly sound and taste, and took genuine pleasure in them. He appreciated good music, food, and drink, held clear preferences, and relished his particular favorites. Those who knew him well knew his dry, understated sense of humor—and his fondness for a well-placed pun.

Above all, Doug was devoted to his family. He is survived by his wife, Leigh Anne; their two sons, Noel and Collin; and his daughter-in-law, Kate, whom he supported with steady presence and care. He is also survived by his sisters, Cindy, Melissa, and Edith; his brothers-in-law, Brent and Laurence; and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Susan and Richard, and by his sister, Emily.

In keeping with his private nature, the family will host a small gathering of friends and family to celebrate Doug’s life. Those wishing to honor his memory may make a gift to the American Heart Association.
