Douglas JOHNSON Obituary

Douglas Edward Johnson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on November 19, 2024, in Spokane Valley, Washington, at the age of 78.

Born on November 9, 1946, in Missoula, Montana, Doug grew up in Spokane, Washington, where he graduated from West Valley High School in 1964. Shortly after graduation, Doug married his high school sweetheart, Linda, in 1966. Their loving partnership became the cornerstone of a family filled with cherished memories and unwavering devotion.

Doug began his professional career at Andrews Equipment in Spokane immediately after high school, eventually working his way up to Parts Manager at the age of 21. Over the course of 23 years, he "never missed a single day of work," earning the admiration and respect of his colleagues and setting a sterling example of dedication. Doug changed careers in 1983, starting an optical wholesale distribution company (CRM) with his "little buddy," Roy. He ended his career working for Kenworth in the Spokane Valley.

Doug enjoyed watching his sons in their various activities growing up, something he always made time for. He especially loved coaching baseball and basketball, roles where he not only supported his boys but also made lifelong friends. Years later, Doug could be found cheering on his grandchildren in those same activities, a proud and devoted fan to the end.

Doug fulfilled his lifelong dream of owning a boat he and Linda could live on. In his later years you could find him spending weekends with Linda soaking up the sun on the waters of Coeur d'Alene, ID, or at Seattle's Elliott Bay Marina. Their love of boating brought them new friendships and created countless cherished memories.

Doug's legacy is one of love, hard work, and a deep commitment to his family and community. Doug was preceded in life by his father, Ross Johnson; and two sisters, Janet and Peggy. Doug is survived by his mother, Juanita of Spokane Valley, WA; wife of 58 years, Linda Johnson of Spokane Valley, WA; sons, Tobin of Phoenix, AZ, Edward of Chewelah, WA, and Jeffrey of Spokane, WA; two daughters-in-law, Heide Johnson and Laura Johnson; grandchildren, Tyler, Kamden, Erin, Tage, Hannah, Rachel, Logan, and Abigail; and countless friends who will miss him dearly.

A celebration of Doug's life will be held in the Spring of 2025, where family and friends are invited to share memories and honor his remarkable journey.

Doug Johnson lived a life that exemplified integrity, love, and perseverance. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

I am so sorry to hear of Doug´s passing. It brings back all the lifetime of memories as double dating in high school with Doug & Linda, being a bridesmaid at their wedding in 1966, and unknowingly becoming neighbors in 1974 where we re-connected & the our boys became lifelong friends! Doug was such a good & kind human being and will be remembered with much fondness. I am thinking of you at this time and wishing you peace. Take care
